Because he was born in Ireland,  I chose to share C.S. Lewis quotes today!

“God, who foresaw your tribulation, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain”

“The very man who has argued you down, will sometimes be found, years later, to have been influenced by what you said”

“We are what we believe we are.”

Monday Musings – Churchill

Monday Musings is hosted each Monday by Barbara at Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers

 mondaymusingslady

Today I chose quotes by  Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965).

Everyone has his day and some days last longer than others.

If you are going to go through hell, keep going.

From now on, ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I shall not put.

Thankful Thursday – Trials

I am thankful for the trials that God allows in my life.  Why?  Because:

  1. Trials cause me to draw closer to Jesus.
  2.  This is where I can best feel the Arms of God around me, carrying me, and loving me.
  3. I gain compassion for others who have also gone or will go through similar circumstances.
  4. The blessings and gifts of the Lord are that much more precious!
  5. That God might get the glory.
  6. It knocks me on my judgmental prideful backside and teaches me a lesson!
  7. I will be even more grateful for the Mountain Top!

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
~ Peter 4:12-13

But he knoweth the way that I take: [when] he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. ~ Job 23:10

O REJOICE IN THE LORD!
He makes no mistake.
He knoweth the end of each path that I take!
For when I am tried and purified,
I shall come forth as gold.
~Ron Hamilton

Recipe Ingredient Search & Leftovers

Don’t know what to make for dinner with the food in your pantry at home?  Here are some recipe search engines that can help.  Just enter in the ingredients that you have on hand and these sites will give you recipes to make using what you already have!

Allrecipes – ingredient search allows you to do an ingredient search with the items you want, the items you don’t want, and additional keywords.

Cookin’ With Google allows you to provide a list of ingredients (what’s in the fridge?) and get back a list of recipes that Google finds for you.
Right now Cookin’ with Google will find you recipes in several different categories, including:

  • General
  • Vegan/Vegetarian
  • Weight Watchers
  • WorldWide Cuisine
  • Atkins Diet
  • Diabetic
  • Seafood
  • Crockpot

With Google base recipe search you can search by ingredient, occasion, cuisine, preparation time, and more!

Use RecipeMatcher to “find delicious recipes based on ingredients and groceries you have at home.”

Supercook is a new recipe search engine that finds recipes you can make with only the ingredients you have at home.”

Once you’ve found a recipe using one of the above search engines and need to figure out what to do with the leftovers, you can go to
Leftover Wizard.

At Leftover Wizard you simply choose up to 3 ingredients or flavors and it will give you a search of over 160,000 recipes.

If you are using up items you already have on hand, you will be saving money and avoiding food waste.   Bon Appétit!

Monday Seuss Meuss-ings

Monday Musings is hosted each Monday by Barbara at Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers

mondaymusingslady

I adore Dr. Seuss’ books!  In fact, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back was perhaps my favorite children’s book when I was little.  It is still one of the books that I don’t mind reading again and again to my own children.

Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) was born on March 2, 1904.   That makes this Monday Dr.  Seuss Day!  In his honor, the NEA has  even declared today Read Across America Day.

So of course, today I will be sharing some Dr. Seuss quotes!

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, And that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” ~ Dr. Seuss

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” ~ Dr. Seuss

“It’s a troublesome world. All the people who’re in it
are troubled with troubles almost every minute.
You ought to be thankful, a whole heaping lot,
for the places and people you’re lucky you’re not.” ~ Dr. Seuss

“Unless someone like You cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” ~ Dr. Seuss

What is your favorite Dr. Seuss quote or book?
